Mount Aso (阿蘇山), Kumamoto, is the largest active volcano in Japan. Simply take the bus from Aso Station, and will stop at Kusasenri (草千里), then to the Mount Aso. Then, you can take the ropeway to the caldera. You can see white gas anywhere. Some areas might be closed because of the strong volcanic gases. The day I went, I could smell super strong volcanic gases. I coughed for few minutes after that!!
